Roseau, September 2017. The Renovation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Retirement Home, Morne Daniel, in Dominica has been completed. This project was funded through the support received from members and supporters of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George.
The elderly home is a 2-storey building, with ten rooms available for residents. It provides round the clock care to residents and offers communal services such as meals, laundry and social activities. The renovation project included demolition works, repairs to the roof, remodelling and improvements to the kitchen and bathrooms, general refurbishment including windows and doors, electrical and plumbing upgrading making much safer and comfortable the setting for its elderly residents.
In a letter addressed to the Order’s Delegate of the Caribbean, Anthony Bailey, The Most Rev Gabriel Malzaire, Bishop of Roseau said: “The project is now complete and operations have resumed to the satisfaction of all parties. We are very grateful for the assistance of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George. Without your help, we would not have been able to complete this much needed project and so provide a place for the care of our elderly citizens.”
As part of its ongoing engagement in the region, the Constantinian Order of St George has also financially aided and supported three further projects in Dominica: the renovation of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Fair Haven, Roseau and St Peter’s Presbytery in Colihaut as well as the construction of the Diocesan Youth Centre in the island’s capital Roseau.
These projects were supported through the efforts of the Order’s Delegation for the Caribbean and the Diocese of Roseau following the visit of the Grand Master of the Constantinian Order, HRH The Duke of Castro and Grand Prior, His Eminence Renato Raffaele Cardinal Martino, Grand Prior to Roseau in November 2014 at the invitation of the island’s government. The visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica was part of a wider series of visits to the region by senior Constantinian Order officials and included Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, St Christopher & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago.
Caribbean delegate Anthony Bailey said “I am delighted that this important charitable project has now been completed. We greatly value our association with Dominica and the wider Caribbean and look forward to continuing our engagement in the region especially now that the region has been so badly affected by natural disaster during 2017”.
His Eminence, Kelvin Cardinal Felix, Archbishop emeritus of Castries and Cardinal Prior of the Order’s Caribbean delegation, in his remarks concerning the projects said: “I commend the efforts of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St. George for their generous assistance towards the three projects in Dominica. May the Lord continue to prosper the work of their hands”.
